Robert Taylor

I am a British English teacher who has lived in Marseille for twelve years. Originally from London, I hold a masters in Applied Linguistics from the University of Leeds and the Cambridge DELTA. I am also a certified IELTS examiner, which gives my students a significant advantage in their exam preparation.

Marseille is a wonderfully international city, and my student base reflects that diversity. I work with executives from the CMA CGM group, researchers at CNRS, medical students at Aix-Marseille University, and professionals from the port and maritime industries. Each sector has its own vocabulary and communication needs, and I tailor my lessons accordingly.

For exam preparation, my insider knowledge as an IELTS examiner is invaluable. I know exactly how the exam is scored, what common mistakes cost students marks, and which strategies yield the highest improvements. My students typically improve by 1 to 2 bands in 10 to 15 sessions.

My general English lessons focus on building real communicative competence: the ability to express complex ideas clearly, participate in meetings confidently, and write professional documents that make an impact. Grammar and vocabulary are taught in context, never in isolation.
