Lucy Barton

I hold an MA in Applied Linguistics from the University of Southampton, where I specialised in second language acquisition and testing. For four years I have been helping international students, professionals, and immigrants improve their English and achieve the scores they need for university, work, or visa applications.

My IELTS preparation is data-driven. I analyse each student's diagnostic test to identify their specific weaknesses across reading, writing, listening, and speaking, then design a targeted programme that addresses those gaps efficiently. I know the test inside out and I teach strategies that reliably improve scores.

Beyond exam preparation, I teach general ESL and academic English. I work with university students who need to improve their essay writing, professionals who want to communicate more confidently in meetings, and anyone who wants to feel more at home in English.

My lessons are practical and communicative. I use authentic materials, real-world scenarios, and task-based activities rather than dry grammar drills. Students consistently tell me they enjoy the lessons and are surprised by how quickly they progress.
